A Tribute To Women Lawyers Worldwide: FIDA, 1944- 1994 International Federation of Women Lawyers
About FIDA
The International Federation of Women Lawyers (hereinafter called The Federation) was initiated in Mexico City, South America on the 4th August 1944. The twenty foundation women lawyers, who were the precursors of the federation were motivated to form The International Federation of Women Lawyers by a very significant event (the non- inclusion of women lawyers as delegates to the 3rd Conference of The Inter- American Bar Association) in New York earlier on in 1944.
A Synopsis
This book is a progressive insight as to how The International Federation of Women Lawyers functions in conformity with its status as a non- governmental organisation accredited to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of The United Nations and the direct and indirect consequences of the status in the 74 countries of the world in which FIDA has members.
The idea of writing the book evolved as a result of the work the author had to do at The United Nations as the representative of The Federation. She realised quite early in her first term in office the immense benefits that can accrue to women and children worldwide if The Federation Members in their respective countries implement the resolutions and programmes initiated by the United Nations
through (ECOSOC) for the betterment of the world.
The Author- Beatrice Fisher
Mrs. Beatrice Awura Oboshie Allua Fisher was appointed The United Nations Representative for The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), of which Nigeria is a chapter in 1988 and served in this office until 1992.
