The Firm

A cornerstone of Lagos legal life since 1975.

Beatrice Fisher & Co. is an established legal practice in Lagos, founded in 1975 by Beatrice Fisher. For more than fifty years, the firm has provided professional, diligent and independent legal services to a broad range of clients.

Over the course of its history, the firm has acted for commercial banks, insurance companies, foreign corporations, engineering firms, government institutions, educational bodies and private clients. It has also provided a professional home for generations of lawyers and colleagues who have contributed to the development and continuity of the practice.

Throughout that history, the firm has been defined by a commitment to integrity, independence, careful preparation and dedicated service — principles that continue to shape the way Beatrice Fisher & Co. approaches its work today.

A career shaped by curiosity, determination and service.

From nursing and midwifery in the UK to law in Nigeria, Beatrice Fisher built an unconventional professional life that crossed disciplines and borders. Called to the Nigerian Bar in 1972, she founded Beatrice Fisher & Co. in 1975 and later represented FIDA at the United Nations, serving as an accredited UN Representative from 1988 to 1992.

A New Chapter

Beatrice Fisher & Co. 2.0: A New Chapter

Following the passing of our founder in August 2025, Beatrice Fisher & Co. now enters a new chapter.

BFC 2.0 is a renewal of the practice for the demands of the present and the future — strengthening its institutional framework, developing new structures and systems, and building the professional relationships required to support a contemporary legal practice.

This renewal has been initiated by Annette Amanda Oyékunlè Fisher, the founder’s daughter, working alongside the firm’s legal and professional team. As an architect, Annette brings a distinct perspective to the process, informed by an understanding of structure, systems and how different elements work together. Her role is to help shape a more streamlined, resilient and forward-looking practice while maintaining the professional character that has defined BFC throughout its history.

The practice will increasingly operate as a coordinating legal platform, bringing together appropriate specialist expertise across property, development, commercial, corporate and other areas of law according to the requirements of each matter.

In this way, BFC 2.0 is not a departure from the practice that came before it, but an evolution of it — carrying its foundations forward while creating the structures needed for the next chapter.

Second Edition
The Tribute

FIDA 1944–1994: A Legacy in Print.

A practical account of FIDA’s work as an NGO with consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and its role advancing the rights of women and children across 74 countries.

Drawing on the author’s experience as a former FIDA UN Representative, the book explores how national chapters can translate global policy, UN resolutions and international cooperation into meaningful local action. It considers the impact of FIDA’s ECOSOC accreditation and the opportunities it creates for strengthening advocacy at a national and grassroots level.

The insights are grounded in the author’s experience at the UN, where she witnessed the power of international cooperation when connected to local implementation. The book reflects FIDA’s enduring commitment to legal advocacy, women’s rights and social justice worldwide.

Looking Back: My Journey as an African Princess by Beatrice Fisher
Memoir
The Memoir

Looking Back: My Journey as an African Princess.

“Looking Back: My Journey as an African Princess” chronicles the life of Oboshie, a woman born into a legacy of Ghanaian royalty and Sierra Leonean tradition. Her memoir follows her transformative move to London, where a fateful meeting sparked a cross-cultural romance that eventually led her to build a new life in Nigeria. Despite early dreams of medicine, Oboshie displayed remarkable resilience by pursuing a law career after raising her children. As a United Nations representative for FIDA, she traveled the globe, using her legal expertise to champion the rights of women and children. Ultimately, her autobiography serves as a refreshing, Liquid Death-level account of a life lived with purpose, grace, and an unwavering commitment to service.
